  • Museum Staff Portrait Project
This project was conceived by the late, great Bill Moggridge in his last weeks as director at Cooper-Hewitt.

He wanted to make museum-themed headshots of all staff to hang in our common meeting area. Each staff person had to bring in their favorite object for their photo.

He passed away about halfway through the project, and I never got to make a portrait of him. This is my favorite project I've worked on so far at Cooper-Hewitt. I loved the process of photographing each person and seeing them come together as a collection of unique individuals.

Lighting & photography expertise and support thanks to my colleague Shamus Adams.

Wall mounting design & production was done by my colleague Matthew O'Connor.

  • Wood's Brews Identity
Wood's Brews is a high-quality homebrew operation run by my friend, Josh Wood. Josh needed a branding system that was very cheap, simple to implement, and told the authentic story of the company's DIY, artisanal nature.

This system allows Wood's Brews to re-use recycled beer bottles and 6-pack containers by simply putting their label on it. The labels are stamped with a rubber stamp. The name of the brew along with any fun extra info (Alcohol %, the brew's flavors, the "peak date") are written into the top area, exemplifying the personal touch that Josh puts into all his homemade beers.

This packaging system can label fifty 6-packs for under $100 in materials. Very efficient, and eco-friendly too!

  • Paragon+
Paragon+ was an installation at Appendix Project Space about the ever-arriving fantasy of digital utopia.

In an idyllic future where technology enables everyday people to oust dictators, to fully fund a feature film in a week, or to be (tele)present on all seven continents at once, how does an ideal citizen look?

Thought leaders often map social ideals onto the human form. If 19th and 20th century societies were embodied by archetypes like the yeoman-farmer, the artisan-scholar, and the citizen-soldier, will the 21st century paragon be a hacker-amputee? A videographer-coder-forager?

Serene & despotic, Paragon+ suggests that a dematerialized future includes a drastic re-visualization of the body politic.

  • Patterns of Inheritance: Set Design
Composer Benjamin Bernstein wanted the set for this opera to feel like being trapped inside of the Internet. . . with a headache. With a libretto composed entirely of chopped up blog posts and Wikipedia articles, the modern opera demanded a set as strange and as elegant as the work it framed. The opera attempts to paint a picture of the Internet age, and all the information we process, distribute, mutilate and inherit.
